Perverted “Blessing”: Clergy and the Abortion Clinic

Pardon me while I rant for a moment.  Catholic News Agency reports on the following story:

Religious leaders in favor of abortion gathered on Tuesday to bless an abortion clinic in support of the Roe v. Wade ruling, the Supreme Court decision that mandated legalized abortion nationwide.

. . . Rev. Larry Phillips of Schenectady's Emmanuel-Friedens Church declared the ground "sacred and holy ... where women's voices and stories are welcomed, valued and affirmed; sacred ground where women are treated with dignity, supported in their role as moral decision-makers ... sacred ground where the violent voices of hatred and oppression are quelled."

Another minister prayed that the clinic be made a place of safety with a sense of sanctuary. A rabbi blew a religious musical instrument called a shofar "as a renewal of commitment" to "reproductive rights."

All participants laid their hands on the building as another minister declared, "This is sacred ground."

Kathleen Gallagher of the New York State Catholic Conference, told the Albany Times Union . . .  "My gut reaction is that it's two-faced."

My gut reaction is that it’s perverted.  Evil.  These are both Christian and Jewish clergy.  And all I can do is repeat what the Lord our God says, which apparently they’ve forgotten (or deconstructed out of existence), in scripture common to both Christians and Jews:

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! (Isa 5:20)

It’s especially galling to hear the clinic ground called “sacred and holy ... where women's voices and stories are welcomed, valued and affirmed . . . where women are treated with dignity, supported in their role as moral decision-makers . . . where the violent voices of hatred and oppression are quelled."  This is a Planned Parenthood clinic, where women’s bodies are violated, women’s intelligence disrespected, information about the development of the unborn baby withheld, where child predators are protected by encouraging 15-year-old girls to lie about their age so their “boyfriends” (read: exploiters and rapists) don't have to be reported to the law – Planned Parenthood who threatens to sue educated women who try to expose the truth about what goes on in those clinics. 

This is a clinic dedicated to violence and death, and a place that directly enables the continuing sexual degradation and exploitation of women and girls, and ongoing delinquency and irresponsibility of men with regard to women and girls.  By enabling an irresponsible, degrading, and damaging lifestyle, it prevents women and men both from reaching their full potential in life, and has badly damaged our culture and lowered respect for human life overall.

As the Lord goes on to say,

Therefore, as the tongue of fire devours the stubble, and as dry grass sinks down in the flame, so their root will be as rottenness, and their blossom go up like dust; for they have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts, and have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.  (Isa 5:24)

And as I say, in agreement with scripture,

“As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." (Joshua 24:15)

Lord, protect us from such misguided "clergy" as these, who commit such evil acts in your name.  Enlighten their darkened minds with the light of Your truth and grace, that they would reject with horror their error, and turn from their evil ways to Your authentic goodness.  May they never commit such a perverted "blessing" again.  Please protect us from the evil of abortion, and help us do away with this scourge of our nation by helping us open the eyes of others to the real beauty, holiness, and value of life and sexuality, expressed in chaste celibacy, married love, and real treasuring of new life.  Help us model authentic love, which is always selfless and other-centered, never self-centered, and help us bring the reality of authentic love, which is Your love, into our world.  Amen.
